The Crown Hall New School of Architecture
Project created in spring of 2021
This project uses the existing structure of the original SR Crown Hall, moved from its current location at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and rebuilt on the site in Dessau. This celebrates the connection between Chicago
and the Bauhaus, and the legacy of Mies Van der Rohe, whose role in Germany, as well as Chicago, shaped modern architecture. The Crown Hall New School of Design adds softer forms and fluid circulation paths to the original orthogonal open floor plan to create a more dynamic learning environment and to invoke the flow of creative energy that runs through out the structure. Keeping the steel and glass skeleton of the building reinforces the idea that architectural design necessitates both a rigid structure and nimble thoughts.
